Interesting article

Following paragraph is my summary for this week, and article is come from website below:http://news-info.wustl.edu/tips/page/print/10839.html

The need to increase sales accounts for price promotion strategies. Why price promotions aren't the best marketing strategy is the subject of this article. In the article, Pfeiffer cites the word from Chakravarthi Narasimhan who is a marketing professor at the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. Narasimhan’s assertion was that managers are spotlighted excessively on losing market share and trapped in a senseless cycle of discounting without consider to the long-term repercussions of their actions. Pfeiffer presents some example of price promotion and suggests that managers should discover better effective pricing and promotion strategies. In other words, he concludes that managers ought to remain consumers vary in their needs, favorite and ability or motivation to pay a certain price for a product or service, and do not depend on the discount strategy too much.

After finish reading the previous homeworks' feedback, I carefully revise my summary, and especially, passive voice part. Therefore, I think I could write better passive voice form. The most struggling part of this summary was that there was Narasimhan, who is not writer of this article, but there were a lot of his comment which is really important idea in this article. I was very curious how I could write about him... I hope that I could do better in this time.

And then, I received Rita’s feedback for this assignment.
“My suggestion for approaching a summary is to think about telling a friend about the article that you read.”

After, reading her feed back, I wrote new one, and this time, I wrote just as telling the theme of article to my friend.
This is my new summary.

Why price promotions aren't the best marketing strategy is the subject of this article. This article talks about one of marketing strategy, which is price promotion. Main idea of this article is that managers are sometimes too much focusing on the discounting, and that does not increase the sales of the product. Some products have its value for not only the quality, but also the price. In other words, people buy that product because of that expensiveness. Thus, if manager discounts the price of that product, those products will lost their value and people can easily afford to buy those. Therefore, the products lose its rarity value. So the manager must think more about the product its self, and understand what the best way to promote that product is.

Through my research, my understanding of the difference between “fascinated with” and “fascinated by” is the following:
When I say that I am “fascinated with” something, something become the tool to get my attention or attraction. On the other hand, I think that “fascinated by” something means that something is the reason or cause of my attraction or interest.

Two articles about teachers in the US !

"Suspended Teacher Defends Book Assignment" http://www.theindychannel.com/education/15117839/detail.html

"Museum Field Trip Deemed Too Revealing" http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/30/education/30teacher.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Both cases were written about teachers who dedicated their life to teaching students and got into trouble because what they did during the teaching process which made controversial issue among the parents or school administrator.

In “Suspended Teacher Defends Book Assignment,” author tells about the high school teacher, Connie Heermann who was suspended for assigning a book, which contains swear words and sexual overtones, to her students. Heermann presumed that it was important book for the students to know how they could eliminate or express their emotional stress. She thought that book may inspire the students. However, the article concludes that she should have waited to get the permission from the district’s curriculum director.

The other article, “Museum Field Trip Deemed Too Revealing,” informs the popular art teacher Sydney McGee who took her elementary students to the museum for school trip which ended up very controversial between parents because the students saw nude arts and crafts in the museum, and then the school board suspended McGee in September.

Both teachers believed that what they did was right. I think that the difference was Heermann had little awareness of using the book so that she asked school principal whether she really could use the book or not. These problems often happened in Japan, in recent years. Parents complained to the teachers or school because children claimed or complained. Schools and districts are normally just fired them because they do not get into any trouble. Questions are always left. Did teachers really do something wrong? I think that is very meaningless to lose the great teacher easily because of those kinds of problems. In McGee’s case, there are some parents who tried to defend her, and I felt much sympathy with them. I think the parents depend on teachers to educate the children. Moreover, when some trouble happened, they just blame on teachers. However, education should not be one sided. Teachers and parents, also people who are related to education should harmonize. I think that is the best way to solve those kinds of problems.

HINAMASTURI !

Today, March 3 was the hinamatsuri, which is one of Japanese traditional festibal for girls. Families that have girl children display the hina dolls, and eat special sweets and drink. I was very sick by having stomachache in this afternoon, and I felt so bad because I planed to celebrate hinamatsuri, and that was all ruined by my bad condition, so I decided to stay in bed sulking. However, when I woke up, my roommates bought some sweets and cooked special meal for today. I become very happy, and appreciate my roommates so much!! That was the moment that the really bad day suddenly turned in to great day!
